Island Reflections Photographer, Michelle Loglia-Schmidt is a professionally trained photographer, painter, mother and elementary school teacher serving Kauai Island locals and visitors. Michelle grew up in Long Island, New York and comes from a family of photographers. She earned her BFA in Photography and Graphic Design from Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland. After graduation, she went on to complete her teaching certification from Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. While there, Michelle immersed herself in the art culture of the area. She took many art classes from inspiring local artists at Humboldt State, College of the Redwoods and attended photography and Photoshop workshops at Cal Berkeley. Her transition from film and darkrooms to digital photography and Photoshop was a slow transition, she eventually gave in and fell in love with the modern medium.
Michelle relocated to Kauai, Hawaii in 2000 and began teaching Kauai school children for several years. Michelle always found a way to bring art to her students. Michelle founded West Kauai Summer Arts Academy in Kekaha, a summer arts & music program for West Kauai youth.
After the birth of Michelle's first child she decided to stay home with her children and raise them herself. Michelle never put her paint brush aside in turn, she encouraged her children to play and create with them. Painting and creating alongside her children. Michelle's children and family are her biggest inspiration. Photographing each moment and new expeience they enounter.
Michelle's work is endlessly inspired by the natural beauty of the Hawaiian Islands and its people. Michelle is known for her vibrant botanical images. Her laid back, loving spirit will capture each detail and moment of your event or portrait session.
